Localizing games

Post by Mr. Blinky »

There are four games that where only released in Japan. Wouldn't it be great to have english versions of them ?

Every once in a while when I'm going through the rom dumps looking for info. The idea to hack them into english crosses my mind more then once. Unfortunately My Japanese reading/translating skills don't go beyond 'yes and no' at the moment. So anyone like to help ?

I'd love them translated. :3 I looked into trying to find the text in sodate once but to no avail.
Here's the extent of my note taking, if you want.

Did some reverse engineering on the game and your notes where helpfull in locating the texts. Attached a text file with some of the texts found early in the game and their addresses, the font used and a rom with patched 'yes no' text for a test.

Looks we need some otaku to help translating them :)

Found a lot more texts but Not sure where they appear in the game so we need a small tool that extracts the the texts into readable japanese so they can be translated these.

Great work! :D
Here's the unicode codepoints so you can convert the dumps to actual text.

Thanks for that list Wa ! Comes in very handy :)

I've updated my tool and added your list. There's a export button now to export all the info including the japanese text into HTML.
Tried pasting some of the texts into google translate but that gave some unexpected results  We will need some real translators for the job.

Info is attached updated tool is here : http://blinky.kicks-ass.org/pm/sodate/T ... -02-13.zip

Update summary from IRC~
* small white square should be the japanese middle dot (30FB)
* the hyphen should be the elongation mark (30FC)
I did some minor translating of what I know, and fixed the above. Can find it here.

:D Im excited to officially release my graphics exchanger tool!
It's modular so you can make modules to handle other platforms' ROMs too.

Anyway, check out the readme for infos. Also it can replace text and bin data too, not just graphics.
Project page - Requires this library as well.
And, you may need PIL, I'm not sure if it comes with python or not.

For those interested in writing modules, feel free to request any needed features for yours. :]

MrBlinky made an awesome rpl for Puzzle 2 here!

(Speaking of, we're translating Puzzle 2 at the moment and it's coming along very nicely. We'll get back to Sodate when someone who actually knows Japanese wants to translate the text.)

PIL does not come with Python so it needs to be installed seperately.

Speaking about Puzzle Vol.2 it has now been 100% translated :D see here
